DIRECTV & DIRECTV STREAM Loses 66 local channels

December 4, 2023

For the second time this year, DIRECTV failed to reach a deal with a major local station owner. This time the lack of agreement comes from broadcast station Tegna, leading to a loss of 66 local stations including ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. The previous deal between the two entities expired when they couldn’t come to an agreement by the 8 p.m. deadline on Thursday, 11/30.

DIRECTV had already begun to email select customers on Thursday warning them that they would likely lose specific channels.

While it is not certain how long the loss of these channels will last, DIRECTV chief content officer Rob Thun indicated that the two companies were nowhere near reaching an agreement.
